High school and college students collected sensory data at the IQRF Hackathon

From 15th to 16th November 2016 the IQRF IoT Hackathon was held at Smíchovská High School in Prague. An event where the various technologies used in the area of IoT were presented to students.

CO2, temperature and humidity sensors by company Protronix, data transmission by the IQRF technology and sending the data into clouds from different providers such as Microsoft (Azure), Inteliments (Inteliglue), CIS (IQRF Cloud). Data integration from different sources was prepared by O2 IT Services.

Mainly students from the IQRF Smart School program attended the event but also people who are not involved in the program yet interested in IoT joined us there.

The introductory lectures provided students with the basics to understand of all the used technologies after that there were workshops with more details and a time to ask questions regarding to these IoT technologies.

At the end of the first day the topic of cooperation competition was announced and the competition started.

Topic: Implement a system of automatic ventilation and air monitoring to ensure the optimal environment in the home.

Students were solving the task according to their skills and professional focus. They were allowed to use hardware and software provided by the partner companies.

Next day it was time to present their solutions to professional jury. The results were outstanding. It was almost unbelievable that students were able to solve that complicated task using hardware and software they didn’t even know in some cases. It was interesting how they were willing to help each other despite the competition.

Results:

Professional jury decided that the winning project was prepared by the team consisting of Dominik Krisztof (Ječná High School), Jakub Godovčík (High School at Frýdek-Místek), Vojtěch Novák and Zdeněk Kolář (FE of CULS). They have designed their own communication gateway, used MQTT protocol for communication, Node-RED platform and connected everything with Azure cloud solution by Microsoft.

The second place was rewarded to the team – Ondřej Klempíř, Lukáš Mařík, Ondřej Pilecký and Matěj Nemec (Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of CTU). This team designed a system of automatic air regulation in isolated environment, automatically connecting rooms with rooms generating oxygen and consuming CO2 by the plants.

And finally the third place was taken by team – Roman Ondráček, Ondřej Lefler (High School Boskovice), Pavel Marx and Michal Dolenský (High School Jičín). This team successfully collected sensory data, sent them via the IQRF network into cloud where they developed a system of automatic reversed management.

The hackathon was attended by 40 students from 10 schools.
